If, despite the required level of electrolyte in the battery, it creates a "sluggish" impression, use a special device to check the degree of discharge. In simple terms, this device is a glass cylinder, inside which a special correction (hydrometer) measures the density of the electrolyte. To do this, the hydrometer checks the electrolytic concentration of the sucked-in battery liquid. Of course, you can also measure the discharge level with a multimeter (reading accuracy±0.02 Volts): based on the measured value of the steady-state voltage, you can determine the discharge level of the battery.

- Before taking measurements, leave the battery "unattended" for at least six hours.
- Then remove the battery cap.
- Hold the hydrometer vertically in the liquid and suck in enough electrolyte to make the hydrometer float freely in the cylinder.

Measuring the density of the electrolyte: this is possible only in batteries with serviceable sections. The density is measured in each individual section. To do this, hold the densimeter 1 vertically and suck in enough electrolyte so that the float (aeromometer 2) floats freely. In a "healthy" battery, the sections have approximately the same values. Compare them on scale 3 at the top of the aerometer. |

- If the last charging process took place less than six hours ago, then turn on the low beam for about 30 seconds: this will even out any possible voltage peaks.
- After another 4-5 minutes of waiting, check the battery voltage. In this case, first turn off all current consumers.
