Selecting engine oil (Mondeo 2)

Modern high-performance engines equipped with exhaust gas toxicity reduction systems (in particular, neutralizers) place increased demands on motor oils. Oil should not evaporate at high temperatures, which cylinder mirrors are exposed to. Under these unfavorable conditions, the oil film should not break. Oil should burn without residue, bind soot and dirt so that they do not settle in the engine. To effectively combat deposits in the engine lubrication system, oils must have high cleaning properties.

The main reasons for premature "aging" of oil and the formation of deposits are:

- running the engine on a lean mixture to save fuel;

- increasing oil change intervals;

- predominance of short-distance trips.

Warning: Use only oils recommended by Ford.

When purchasing oil, you should pay attention to the following:

- oil quality according to the API scale - American Petroleum Institute (in addition, there are other classification systems - European car manufacturers (CCMC), US Military Department (MIL) and a number of others);

- oil viscosity according to SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers). Winter oils include SAE 5W, 10W, 15W oils; to summer oils - SAE 30, 40 and 50; to universal oils - SAE 15W-50.
