Oil consumption (Mondeo 2)

            0

The main reason for oil consumption during engine operation is burnout. Well-run engines consume 0.2 l per 1000 km. The maximum permissible fuel consumption is 1.5 l per 1000 km.

The following factors influence oil consumption:

- Overfilling the oil leads to higher consumption, as the crankcase ventilation system blows excess oil out of the engine;

- oil viscosity: thin oil burns faster than thick oil;

- driving style (sporty driving style increases oil consumption). This is especially noticeable during the engine break-in period;

- oil leaks;

- wear of engine parts (failure of oil scraper caps, too large a gap between the guide sleeve and the valve stem, incorrectly installed or defective piston rings, damage to the cylinder bore).

To determine engine oil consumption:

- fill the oil exactly to the upper mark;

- after a run of 500 or 1000 km, add oil again to the upper mark from the measuring container and determine the oil consumption per 1000 km.
