Periodic Maintenance Procedures

General information

The information in this chapter should help the vehicle owner to ensure the safety, economy, performance and long life of their vehicle.

This chapter contains a maintenance schedule set out in paragraphs describing each schedule procedure. It reflects the procedures for visual inspection, adjustment, replacement of components, as well as other useful information. When determining the location of the units, refer to the above images of the engine compartment and the bottom.

Maintaining the vehicle in accordance with the above schedule and the following paragraphs ensures that the maintenance program is completed, which in turn guarantees long and reliable operation. All operations of the plan must be performed in a complex, since failure to complete some of them may adversely affect the performance of the machine.

Performing maintenance work. You will see that many operations can and should be performed together, for example, due to the execution of a common procedure or the proximity of independent nodes.

If, for example, for some reason you raised the car, then at the same time as checking the suspension and steering units, you can inspect the components of the fuel and exhaust systems. When checking tires, it makes sense to check the brakes and wheel bearings, especially if the wheels have already been removed.

It is advisable that you have a torque wrench. Even if you only need to tighten the spark plugs, you can also check the tightness of many critical connections.

During maintenance, you must first prepare for the work. Read all the paragraphs related to the procedure being performed, then make a list of all the necessary parts and tools and assemble them. In case of difficulty, contact the service or parts department of the dealer.

Maintenance interval display

The optional warning system, fitted to all vehicles, contains a service interval warning light that illuminates when the next service is required due to the vehicle having reached its statutory mileage or age.

This device needs to be restarted for any service as follows:

A) On models manufactured before 1996, inclusive, you need to press the switch located inside the glove box and hold it for four seconds with the ignition on.

b) On models manufactured since 1997, you need to press this switch with a thin rod and hold it for four seconds with the ignition on. It is located on the display behind the arrow-shaped symbol (see fig. 1.0).

Intensive service

1. If, after purchasing the vehicle, you strictly adhere to the maintenance schedule and monitor the level of working fluids, as well as the condition of wear parts, as recommended in this manual, then the engine * will maintain its characteristics, and the need for additional procedures will be minimal.

2. In the event of insufficient regular maintenance, engine performance may deteriorate after a while. This is most likely to happen when purchasing a used car that has not been serviced regularly. In such cases, it is necessary to perform additional procedures beyond the schedule.

3. If you suspect the engine is worn out, do a compression test (see relevant part of chapter 2), which provides control of the state of its main nodes. Such a check will help to draw a conclusion about the amount of work required. If the compression test reveals significant wear, the routine maintenance described in this chapter will not improve engine performance and may be a waste of time and money until the engine is overhauled.

4. To improve the performance of the engine in case of insufficiently efficient operation, the following sequence of operations is recommended:

Primary cycle

A) Clean, inspect and test the battery ("Weekly checks").
b) Check all fluids used by the engine ("Weekly checks").
V) Check the condition and tension of the accessory drive belt (paragraph 5).
G) Adjust or replace spark plugs (paragraph 29 or 32).
d) Check the condition of the air filter and replace if necessary (paragraph 24).
e) Check fuel filter (paragraph 31).
and) Check the condition of all hoses and the presence of fluid leaks from them (paragraphs B and 18).

If the above procedures are not effective enough, you must perform the following operations:

Secondary cycle

In addition to the above, perform the following procedures:

A) Check the battery charging system (see chapter 5A).
b) Check the ignition system (see chapter 5B).
V) Check the fuel system (see chapter 4A).
G) Replace ignition high voltage wires (see chapter. 5 B).
