General information about the car (Mondeo 4)

Production of the third generation Ford Mondeo cars began at the Belgian plant (Genk) in March 2007. The cars are produced in sedan, hatchback and station wagon versions. At the Russian plant of the concern in Vsevolozhsk (a suburb of St. Petersburg), cars of this model have been assembled since March 2009.

For the Russian market, Ford Mondeo cars are equipped with the following engines: 1.6 l R4 16V Duratec Ti-VCT (125 hp); 2.0L R4 16V Duratec-HE (145hp); 2.3L R4 16V Duratec-HE (161hp); 2.5L R4 16V Duratec-ST (220hp); 2.0L Duratorq-TDCi R4 16V turbodiesel.

The cars are equipped with manual transmissions (five-speed iB5 or MTX75, six-speed MMT6 or MT-66) or a six-speed automatic transmission AWF21 (only on cars with diesel engines and a 2.3 l Duratec-НЕ and 2.5 Duratec-VI5 petrol engine).

The third generation Ford Mondeo cars are produced with sedan, station wagon and five-door hatchback bodies. In Russia, the car is offered in six basic configurations: – Ambiente (ABS, four airbags, air conditioning, electric front windows, central locking with remote control, immobilizer, audio system with CD); – Trend (in addition to the Ambiente equipment, includes ESP, aluminum interior trim, electric windows); – Ghia (in addition to the Trend equipment, climate control system, 16-inch alloy wheels, trip computer, electric heated mirrors, chrome exterior trim, Sony audio system with CD and MP3, heated windshield, windshield wipers and front seats); – Ghia Executive (Alcantara interior trim, 17-inch alloy wheels, xenon headlights, wood trim, electric driver's seat, Sony changer); – Titanium and Titanium Executive – new top versions (exclusive aluminum, leather, Alcantara trim, six airbags, changer, xenon headlights and other equipment).



By special order, the car can be equipped with parking sensors, an electric sunroof, and a DVD.

The equipment of cars for the Russian market includes engine sump and sill protection, mudguards for all wheels and a full-size spare wheel.

The bodies of all Ford Mondeo models are load-bearing, all-metal, welded construction with hinged front fenders, doors, hood and trunk lid (tailgate). The windshield and rear glass (tailgate glass) are glued. The driver's seat is adjustable in the longitudinal direction, by the tilt of the backrest and height, the front passenger seat - in the longitudinal direction and by the tilt of the backrest. The front and rear seats are equipped with height-adjustable headrests. The backrest of the rear seat can be folded forward in parts in a ratio of 40:60.

The transmission is made according to the front-wheel drive scheme with front wheel drives equipped with constant velocity joints.

Front suspension is MacPherson type, independent, spring, with anti-roll bar, with hydraulic shock absorbers. Rear suspension is independent, spring, with hydraulic shock absorbers.

Front wheel brakes are disc, ventilated, with a floating caliper; rear wheels - disc, with a floating caliper. The braking system is equipped with a vacuum booster.

The steering is trauma-safe, with a rack-and-pinion steering mechanism with hydraulic or electro-hydraulic booster. The steering column is adjustable in reach and tilt. The steering wheel hub contains a front airbag.

All vehicles are equipped with inertia-reel diagonal seat belts for the driver, front passenger and all rear seat passengers. The front passenger is provided with a front airbag.



The overall dimensions of the sedan are shown in Fig. 1.1, the hatchback – in Fig. 1.2, the station wagon – in Fig. 1.3. The technical characteristics of the car are given in Table 1.1. The elements of the car with the 2.3 l Duratec-HE engine, located in the engine compartment, and the main units are shown in Figs. 1.4–1.7.
