Third-generation Ford Mondeo starts production at Belgian plant (Genk) in March 2007. Cars are produced in sedan, hatchback and station wagon versions. At the Russian plant of the concern in Vsevolozhsk (suburb of St. Petersburg) cars of this model have been assembled since March 2009.

For the Russian market, Ford Mondeo cars are equipped with the following engines: 1.6 L R4 16V Duratec Ti-VCT (125 hp); 2.0L R4 16V Duratec-HE (145 hp); 2.3L R4 16V Duratec-HE (161 hp); 2.5L R4 16V Duratec-ST (220 hp); 2.0 l turbodiesel Duratorq-TDCi R4 16V.

Vehicles fitted with manual transmissions (five-speed iB5 or MTX75, six-speed MMT6 or MT-66) or a six-speed automatic transmission AWF21 (only on vehicles with diesel engines and petrol engines 2.3 l Duratec-HE and 2.5 Duratec-VI5).

Ford Mondeo cars of the third generation are produced with sedan, station wagon and five-door hatchback bodies. In Russia, the car is offered in six basic trim levels: – Ambiente (ABS, four airbags, air conditioning, power windows, central locking with remote control, immobilizer, audio system with CD); – Trend (in addition to the equipment of the Ambiente package includes ESP, aluminum interior trim, electric drive for all windows); – Ghia (in addition to Trend equipment, a climate control system, 16-inch alloy wheels, an on-board computer, power mirrors with heating, chrome exterior trim, Sony audio system with CD and MP3, heated windshield, wipers and front seats are included); – Ghia Executive (Alcantara trim, 17" alloy wheels, xenon headlights, woodgrain trim, power driver's seat, Sony changer); – Titanium and Titanium Executive – new top versions _ (exclusive finishing with aluminum, leather, alcantara, six airbags, changer, xenon headlights and other equipment).


By special order, parking sensors, electric sunroof, DVD can be installed on the car.

Vehicles for the Russian market are equipped with crankcase and sill protection, mudguards for all wheels and a full-size spare wheel.

Bodies of all modifications of Ford Mondeo cars are load-bearing, all-metal, welded construction with hinged front fenders, doors, hood and trunk lid (tailgate). Windshield and rear window (tailgate glass) pasted. The driver's seat is adjustable in the longitudinal direction, backrest tilt and height, the front passenger seat - in the longitudinal direction and inclination of the backrest. The front and rear seats are equipped with height-adjustable head restraints. The rear seat backrest can be folded forward in parts in a ratio of 40:60.

The transmission is made according to the front-wheel drive scheme with front wheel drives equipped with constant velocity joints.

MacPherson type front suspension, independent, spring, with anti-roll bar, with hydraulic shock absorber struts. The rear suspension is independent, spring, with hydraulic shock absorbers.

Brake mechanisms of forward wheels disk, ventilated, with a floating bracket; rear wheels - disc, with a floating bracket. The brake system is equipped with a vacuum booster.

The steering is safety, with a gear-rack type steering mechanism with a hydraulic or electro-hydraulic booster. The steering column is adjustable for reach and tilt. The frontal airbag is located in the steering wheel hub.

All vehicles are equipped with retractable diagonal seat belts for the driver, front passenger and all passengers in the rear seat. A frontal airbag is provided for the front passenger.


Overall dimensions of the car with a sedan body are shown in fig. 1.1, with a hatchback body - in fig. 1.2, with a station wagon body - in fig. 1.3. Technical characteristics of the car are given in table. 1.1. Elements of a car with a 2.3 l Duratec-HE engine, located in the engine compartment, and the main units are shown in fig. 1.4–1.7.

NOTE The location of the elements and main units of cars equipped with other engines of all sizes is almost the same.
