Ford equips the Mondeo with a parallel type jack as standard, which is installed in the places reserved for it under the door sills. Correct «lifting points» front and rear are marked on the thresholds. For most small jobs, the lifting height with an onboard jack is quite enough; if there is a rigid base between the jack leg and the standing place, the lifting height can even be slightly increased. However, you should enclose a small board. Then the jack is more stable, its leg does not press on the ground. However, be careful, a car jack - and its name already says it - is only intended to lift a car: it will by no means replace a stable and vibration-resistant «working scene».

For your own safety - hard dummy goats
Therefore, never support your Mondeo, even in a big hurry, when working under the bottom with only one jack: in the worst case, you can pay with your life for your bravery. Therefore, act confidently and use dummy goats, which are offered by the trade in a variety of sizes and designs. Two goats are enough for most jobs. Decide on a tripod trestle with folding legs, unused trestle takes up little space in the workshop. Pay attention to the presence of the GS inspection mark and the appropriate lifting load for your Mondeo.
Installing in the correct position: after the trestle legs 2 have been placed in the right place, pull the distance tube 1 out of the stand as far as possible and fix it with the safety bolt 3 in the nearest hole. Park the vehicle on a solid base and remove all heavy objects from the passenger compartment and trunk before starting work. Before starting work, set the hand brake and place at least one non-braked wheel under a wedge with ground contact: in extreme cases, you can use a large stone. The installed handbrake alone cannot provide sufficient safety, and for some work it should even be released. The onboard jack, together with the wheel bolt wrench, is located above the left wheel arch in the luggage compartment. Before placing the jack under the door sill as far as possible, raise the jack until its stop almost reaches the height of the sill. In general, you need to ensure that the jack is vertical to the body. Attention: install the jack only in receiving places. The garage mobile jack should only be installed with load-distributing timber under a door sill or other suitable receiving point (e.g. cross bar). Set the jack to the desired working height and support the body in a suitable place on the underbody with a jackhorn. Also use the trestle only with load-distributing pads (e.g. ebonite, wooden beam). Before installing the trestles, carefully check the retaining points: are there metal folds, cable harnesses, fuel lines or brake lines? The tripod trestle will stand securely enough if one of the legs is located on the outside, and the other two are directed towards the middle of the car. Be sure to pay attention to the location of the legs, especially if multiple goats are used. Otherwise, it may happen that an already installed trestle, when lifted by others, may tip over to the side.
This way your Mondeo will stand and not wobble: the corresponding mounting points are marked in the figure with points 1 and 2. In them, without worrying about anything, you can safely install trestle bars, a mobile garage jack or a car lift with a platform. If, of course, other places on the vehicle are to be used for special work, it is desirable to use hardwood blocks as much as possible «increase» adjacent surfaces of the jack. |
