Removing the steering lock

PROCEDURE
  1. Disconnect the battery.
  2. Release screws 1 and clips 2 of a protective facing under a column of a steering.


    Remove the protective lining under the steering column. 1 Screws, 2 Clips.
  3. If your Mondeo has a radio remote control, then use a narrow screwdriver to release the locking latch from the rear trim of the steering column and..
  4. …then remove the connector on the remote control switch. Next, remove the switch itself.
  5. Separate now the top facing of the column from the bottom. To do this, on both sides, release the retaining clip 1 with a narrow screwdriver and remove the trim 2.

  6. Now remove the lower trim of the steering column (screws are indicated by arrows).

  7. Remove the PATS transceiver unit. For better orientation, we will show this with the steering wheel removed.

  8. Now remove the steering lock. To do this, turn the ignition key 1 to position «I» and press the locking mechanism 2 with a narrow screwdriver into the ignition switch. Then pull out the locking cylinder completely.


    Turn ignition key 1 to position «I», push in locking mechanism 2 and pull out the steering lock with the ignition key.
  9. Carry out installation in reverse order.
