This system serves to reduce the nitrogen oxide content in the exhaust gases. Part of the exhaust gases are directed to the intake manifold, which leads to a decrease in the temperature in the combustion chamber and, as a result, to a decrease in the nitrogen oxide content.
The operation and adjustment of the exhaust gas recirculation system is carried out using a self-diagnostic system.
