Neutralization of exhaust gases of gasoline engines

All Mondeo petrol engines are equipped with a three-way catalytic converter. In the inlet pipe of the converter there is a lambda probe that constantly measures the oxygen content in the exhaust gases. In accordance with this information, the control unit issues a command to enrich or deplete the air-fuel mixture:

- excess air - to burn hydrocarbons, lack of air - to reduce the CO content. The exhaust gases enter the converter, which almost completely converts them into carbon dioxide, water vapor and nitrogen.
