General information about manual transmission (Mondeo 1 and 2)

The vehicles in this manual are equipped with a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic transmission. This chapter provides information about the manual transmission. The transmission housing is made of aluminum alloy.

It has a gearbox and differential. The transmission designation is MTX-75. MT means manual transmission, X is the drive axle in the block with the gearbox (front-wheel drive), and the numbers 75 correspond to the distance in millimeters between the input and output shafts.

Please note that since 1997, the lever-type shift mechanism has been replaced by a cable-type one.

Internal transmission repair operations are quite complex and require special equipment. Therefore, and also due to the fact that spare parts for the transmission are difficult to obtain, we do not recommend that you repair it yourself.
