Ford Mondeo vehicles can optionally be equipped with a fully automatic transmission. Such a box has four forward ranges, which are automatically selected by the engine control unit. For fast acceleration, for example when overtaking, the automation is equipped with a so-called kick-down switch, which turns on when you fully press the gas pedal. Kickdown - the effect provides either a later shift to a higher gear, or a shift from a higher to a lower gear. Note! Gear selector with drive program (P-R-N-D-2-1) can be taken out of R (parking brake) only if the ignition key is in position II, the foot brake pedal is depressed and the lock button on the lever is pressed.
With a discharged battery, the selector lever cannot be returned to the normal position from position P. In this case, an emergency unlocking is provided: Using a ballpoint pen or a screwdriver through the window in the center console, push back on the unlocking lever and simultaneously remove the selector lever from position P.
