Ford Mondeo cars can optionally be equipped with a fully automatic gearbox. This gearbox has four forward ranges, which are selected automatically by the engine control unit. For quick acceleration, for example when overtaking, the automatic is equipped with a so-called Kick-down switch, which is activated when the gas pedal is fully pressed. Kickdown - the effect provides either a later switch to a higher gear, or a switch from a higher to a lower gear. To evaluate the operation of the automatic and correctly identify the deficiencies, experience and knowledge of the operating principle of the automatic and automatic gearbox are required. Therefore, information on its repair is not provided here. If the automatic gearbox is faulty, it is replaced at a service station, usually as an assembly.
Note! The gear selector lever with drive program (PRND-2-1) can only be moved out of position P (parking brake) if the ignition key is in position II, the foot brake pedal is depressed and the locking button on the lever is pressed.
If the battery is discharged, the selector lever cannot be moved to the normal position from position P. In this case, an emergency release is provided: Using a ballpoint pen or a screwdriver, press the release lever back through the window in the center console and simultaneously move the selector lever out of position P.
Attention! When towing a car with an automatic transmission, pay attention to some points, see item 25.
