Removing and installing rear wheel speed sensors (Mondeo 4)

The rear wheel speed sensor is mounted on the rear wheel hub.

You will need a TORX T25 key.

1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

2. Clean any dirt from the sensor wiring harness connector and the hub surface around the sensor installation location.

3. Squeeze the clips to disconnect the wiring harness connector from the sensor.

4. Remove the sensor mounting screw…

5….and remove the sensor from the rear wheel hub hole.

5….and remove the sensor from the rear wheel hub hole.


6. Install the rear wheel speed sensor in the reverse order of removal.

WARNINGS: When installing the sensor, precisely align the hole in its housing with the threaded hole in the hub; do not rotate the sensor around the longitudinal axis during installation.


The increase in resistance to movement of the sensor should be felt only in the last 2 mm before it is fully seated on the hub. If the sensor fits tightly into the hub hole from the very beginning of installation, remove it and eliminate the cause of jamming (dirt, burr on the housing, etc.).
