To check the functionality of the clutch (with proper parking brake) do the following:
- brake the car with a parking brake;
- start the engine;
- turn on the third gear;
- slowly engage the clutch and depress the accelerator pedal;
- if the clutch is in good condition, the engine will stop. If the clutch is slipping, check the clutch actuator. If the drive is OK, replace the clutch.
Driving with a failed clutch
If the clutch actuator is faulty and you need to drive to a garage or workshop, proceed as follows:
- stop the engine and turn on the first gear;
- turn on the starter. The vehicle will jerk until the engine speed matches the drive speed;
- Preheat a cold engine so that it does not stop;
- switch to higher gears by double depressing the clutch;
- switch to lower gears by double depressing the clutch and regassing;
- Continue driving to the nearest service station.
