Checking the clutch (Mondeo 2)

To check the operation of the clutch (with the parking brake in good condition), do the following:

- apply the parking brake to the car;

- start the engine;

- engage third gear;

- slowly engage the clutch and press the accelerator pedal;

- if the clutch is working properly, the engine will stop. If the clutch is slipping, check the clutch drive. If the drive is working properly, replace the clutch.

Driving with a failed clutch

If the clutch drive is faulty and you need to get to a garage or service station, do the following:

- stop the engine and engage first gear;

- turn on the starter. The car will move jerkily until the engine speed equals the drive speed;

- warm up a cold engine beforehand so that it does not stall;

- shift to higher gears by double squeezing the clutch;

- downshift by double-pressing the clutch and revving the engine;

- continue driving to the nearest service station.
