Parking brake actuator

Adjustment

1. Raise the rear of the vehicle and fully release the parking brake lever.

2. Measure the stroke of the control plastic plungers. Plungers are located at the bottom of each brake shield (one of the plungers is shown by an arrow) opposite the parking brake cable outlet. The movement of the control plastic plungers in total should be within 1.0–2.5 mm, otherwise it is necessary to adjust the parking brake.

3. Check the correct installation of the coupling and cable in the bracket. Unlock the adjusting nut by inserting a screwdriver between it and the sleeve.

4. Turning the adjusting nut (arrow), eliminate the sagging of the cable, while the stroke of the control plastic plungers should be minimal. If necessary, move the parking brake cable on the cable equalizer so that the two strands of the cable have the same tension. Then turn the adjusting nut an additional half turn.

5. Apply the parking brake to install the adjusting nut into the coupling.

6. If, after loosening the cable, the movement of the control plastic plungers has not changed, this means that there is a mechanical malfunction in the parking brake drive system.

7. In cars manufactured since 1982, the stroke of the control plastic plungers is 0.5–1.0 mm and is adjusted by the adjusting nut after releasing the lock nut.
