The figure shows two possible options for the dashboard of a Ford Mondeo car. Comments for each item are provided below.

1. Indicator lamp


When you turn on the right or left turn, the corresponding arrow on the right or left control lamp flashes. If one of the turn signal circuits is faulty, the flashing frequency will double.

2. Ignition warning lamp


The ignition control lamp should always come on when the ignition is turned on or when the machine is warming up. If the lamp lights up in any other case, you should immediately contact the nearest Service Center.

3. Cruise control warning light (tempostat)


Details of the operation of the automatic tempostat are described in Paragraph 10.

4. High beam warning lamp


Illuminates when high beam headlights or headlight alarms are switched on.

5. Airbag warning light


It lights up when the ignition is turned on (position II) for about 5 seconds. This means that the airbag is serviceable and ready for operation. Details of airbag operation are described in Section 20.

6. Stability control warning lamp


This lamp is lit when the system is turned off and flashes when the system is turned on. If the lamp does not flash and does not light up approximately 3 seconds after the ignition is turned on, or remains lit while driving when the system has not been turned on, then a system malfunction has occurred. In case of such malfunctions, contact the Service Center. Details on the operation of the stability control system are described in Paragraph 22.


7. Economy/sport warning light (AT) modes


This lamp lights up when sport mode is selected («Sport»). Details about the modes are described in Paragraph 14.

8. Overdrive warning light (AT)


This lamp comes on when the D position selector lever is selected, and lights up when the overdrive is disengaged. Details are described in Paragraph 14.

9. Anti-lock braking system warning lamp (ABS)


If this light comes on while driving, then the ABS is damaged. In such a situation, the standard brake system continues to work, but the ABS should be checked immediately at the nearest Service Center. For more information on the operation of the ABS, see chapter «brakes».

10. Brake warning light


This lamp goes out when the parking brake is released. If it stays on, the brake fluid level is low.

Warning: You should immediately add brake fluid to the MAX mark, then check the operation of the brake system at the nearest Service Center. If the warning lamp lights up while driving, it means that one of the brake circuits is damaged.


The second circuit remained intact, so that you can carefully continue to the nearest Service Center.

Warning: Be aware that the braking distance increases, and when braking, you will have to press harder on the pedal.


11. ABS and brake system indicator lamps


If both lamps light up at the same time, you must immediately stop and before resuming movement, be sure to contact the Service Center.

12. Oil pressure warning lamp


If the lamp lights up while driving, be sure to stop, turn off the engine and check the oil level. If it is below normal, add oil to the MAX mark.

13. Preheat indicator lamp


This pump lights up when the ignition is on. Until the lamp goes out, the engine should not be started.

14. Control lamp of a stock of fuel


If it lights up, then the fuel is running out and you need to refuel as soon as possible. The arrow next to the image of the gas station shows which side the gas tank cap is on.

15. Front fog lamp indicator


It lights up when the front fog lights are on.

16. Rear fog lamp indicator


It lights up when the rear fog lamps are turned on.

17. Tachometer


The tachometer shows the number of engine revolutions for 8 minutes. The maximum allowable engine speed for the Ford Mondeo is given in the Specifications. The tachometer on a diesel engine records up to 6000 rpm.

18. Engine temperature gauge


Shows the engine coolant temperature. When the temperature is normal, the arrow is kept in the area «Normal». If the arrow goes into the red zone, then the engine is overheating. In this case, the engine should be turned off and then the cause of overheating should be determined.

Warning: When «boiling» Under no circumstances should the cap on the expansion tank be removed from the engine! The engine can only be started after the fault has been eliminated.


19. Speedometer


The speedometer shows the speed of the car.

20. Total mileage counter (odometer)


Shows total mileage in km.

21. Trip counter


The counter shows the number of kilometers traveled since it was reset to zero. To reset the mileage figure to zero, you need to press the button.

22. Fuel gauge


It indicates the approximate amount of fuel in the tank. After the tank is filled, you need to drive a certain distance - the arrow will start moving to the left, showing a decrease in the fuel level. You need to refuel when the arrow enters the red zone.
