Tensioning mechanism
Note: When replacing the timing belt, a new head cover gasket, some special tools, a tensioner spring, and a spring mounting pin are required.
Loosen the toothed belt tension by moving the tensioner mechanism (see the corresponding description in the section "Removing the toothed belt"). Unscrew the tensioner mechanism mounting bolts and remove the tensioner mechanism. disconnecting the spring. Check the tensioner spring and replace it if necessary (see Fig. 2C.21).
Install the spring on the pin and the tensioner shield, then install the tensioner by aligning the shield with the location reference. Using a key inserted into the center, turn the tensioner clockwise as far as possible. Then tighten the tensioner mounting bolt. Recheck the position of the camshafts and the timing belt tension (see the relevant description in the "Installing the Timing Belt" section).
Camshaft and crankshaft pulleys
Remove the timing belt (see the corresponding description in the section "Removing the timing belt").
After removing the timing belt, the camshaft pulleys can be removed after unscrewing the mounting bolts (see the corresponding description in the section "Removing the timing belt"). The crankshaft pulley can be removed from the crankshaft after removing the crankshaft auxiliary belt pulley and removing the timing belt from the crankshaft pulley.
Note the "FRONT" marking, indicating the front of the pulley, and the location of the axle ring (see Fig. 2C.22).
Check the condition of the pulleys. Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.
