Caution: While it is theoretically possible to remove the oil pump while the engine is in the vehicle, in practice it requires a lot of preliminary disassembly and is difficult to accomplish due to limited access.
Caution The oil pump pressure relief valve can be removed from the engine installed in the vehicle.

Remove the timing belt. Remove the crankshaft pulley and axle ring. Remove the sump. Unscrew the screws securing the oil pickup tube with the mesh filter to the pump, then remove the oil pickup tube. Remove the gasket.
Unscrew the bolt securing the pump to the cylinder block. Remove the pump and gasket. Remove the right crankshaft oil seal. Clean all components thoroughly, especially the mating surfaces of the pump, sump and cylinder block (see Fig. 2C.50).

Examination
Remove the Torx screws, remove the pump cover and remove the rotors. Inspect the rotors for wear and tear. The pressure relief valve can be removed without removing the pump. Raise the front of the vehicle and secure it on stands. Remove the front right wheel and auxiliary drive belt cover.
Unscrew the threaded plug and remove the safety valve spring and plunger. If the circular section sealing ring is damaged, it must be replaced (see Fig. 2C.52, 2C.53).

Install the spring and plunger and tighten the screw plug to the specified torque.
Installation
Before installing the oil pump, fill it with oil by feeding oil into the pump and rotating the inner rotor of the pump several times. Using engine oil as glue, glue the new oil pump gasket to the cylinder block and, rotating the inner rotor of the pump, align it with the crankshaft. Insert the pump mounting bolts and tighten them by hand (see Fig. 2C.54).

By moving the pump to the side, position it so that it is exactly around the crankshaft, and the bottom surface of the pump should be level with the mounting surface of the oil pan. Tighten the pump mounting bolts to the required torque (see Fig. 2C.55).

Install a new right crankshaft oil seal ring.
Install the oil pickup pipe using a new gasket. Tighten the oil pickup pipe mounting bolts to the specified torque.
Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
