Cars with a catalyst — general information

            0

Ford Escort/Orion are equipped with both variable and non-variable catalytic converters.

Attention! Vehicles with a catalytic converter must only be run on unleaded petrol.

A controlled catalyst implies the presence of a mixture preparation device that affects the composition of the exhaust gases. This is done either by an electronically controlled carburetor or by an electronic fuel injection device (engines with a displacement of 1.4 and 1.6 dm3). The fuel injection device receives control signals from a lambda probe installed in the front exhaust pipe.

The lambda probe is a sensor that produces an electrical signal, the magnitude of which is proportional to the oxygen content in the exhaust gases. The lambda probe allows you to adjust the composition of the fuel mixture to obtain the optimal process of burning gases in the catalyst. The engine with a displacement of 1.3 dm3 and a non-variable catalyst has no mixture control, so exhaust gas cleaning is not effective enough.

The catalyst is installed in the exhaust gas system instead of the resonator. It consists of a coated honeycomb block. The catalyst is sensitive to shock.
