Ford Escort/Orion are equipped with both adjustable and non-adjustable catalytic converters.

Attention! Vehicles with a catalytic converter must be operated on unleaded gasoline only.


An adjustable catalyst requires a device for preparing a mixture that affects the composition of the exhaust gases. This is done either by an electronically controlled carburetor or by an electronic fuel injection device (engines with a working volume of 1.4 and 1.6 dm³). The fuel injection device receives control signals from a lambda probe installed in the front exhaust pipe.

The lambda probe is a sensor that produces an electrical signal, the value of which is proportional to the oxygen content in the exhaust gases. The lambda probe allows you to adjust the composition of the fuel mixture to achieve an optimal combustion process of gases in the catalyst. An engine with a working volume of 1.3 dm³ and an unregulated catalyst does not have control over the mixture composition, so the purification of exhaust gases is not effective enough.

The catalyst is installed in the exhaust system instead of the resonator. It consists of a honeycomb-shaped block with a coating. The catalyst is sensitive to impacts.
