Removal and installation of the exhaust system (Escort 4)

Removal

1. Raise the car.



2. In cars with an engine displacement of 1.1 dm³, remove the heated air supply pipe and unscrew the bolts securing the heated air intake (indicated by arrows).



3. Unscrew the 2 bolts securing the exhaust pipe (indicated by arrows).



4. In cars with an engine capacity of 1.3, 1.4 and 1.6 dm³, remove the lambda probe connector and unscrew the three bolts securing the inlet pipe.



5. Unhook the rubber holders from the body and remove the mufflers.

Installation

Be sure to install new bolts and gasket. Before installation, lubricate all bolts and nuts with heat-resistant paste, such as Liqui Moly LM-508-ASC.

1. In cars with an engine displacement of 1.3, 1.4 and 1.6 dm³, connect the exhaust pipe to the front muffler without fully tightening the bolts.



2. To connect the front and rear mufflers, apply marks at a distance of 50 mm from the ends of the pipes to be connected.



3. Insert the ends of the pipes into the connector up to the marks. Set the relative position of the mufflers and tighten the bolts without tightening them completely.

4. Install the exhaust system on the rubber holders.



5. Bolt the exhaust pipe to the manifold using new bolts and gasket.

6. Align the exhaust system and finally tighten the bolts to 40 Nm. The distance from the exhaust system to the car body must be the same (at least 25 mm).

7. Connect the lambda probe.

8. In cars with an engine capacity of 1.1 dm³, screw on the air heating intake and install the pipe.

9. On Orion vehicles, install the exhaust pipe tip and secure with one bolt.

10. Lower the car.
