Dry type air filter with replaceable filter paper brand Motorcraft EFA 248 for engines of all models except GLA, for model GLA - Motorcraft EFA 11 AC PC 57 V filter (except GLA model) built-in temperature sensor 3 (fig.2.75 and 2.76) to control the supply of hot air to the filter.

The temperature of the thermostat operation is 20±2°С for single-chamber carburetors Ford and 28±2 "C for two-chamber Weber carburetors. The engine air intake damper of the GLA model can be installed in summer and winter positions.

Checking the operation of the thermostat (performed on a cold engine). Mark the position of the thermostatic damper: when the engine is not running, it must be completely closed. On JPA, LPA and LUA engines, the damper is visible through the hole after removing the air intake. Start the engine and make sure. that the thermostatic damper is working: at idle, it should be fully open and let air heated by the exhaust manifold into the air filter. If the damper remains closed when starting the engine, it is necessary to check the serviceability of the temperature sensor and the diaphragm of the pneumatic actuator.

Check the integrity of the vacuum tubes and replace if necessary. Then disconnect the hose connecting it to the pneumatic drive from the temperature sensor and connect the hose to the vacuum pump. Create a vacuum of 100 mm. rt. Art. If the damper opens and remains open, then the temperature sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the damper remains closed, the damper or diaphragm is faulty. Check damper operation and. if it works normally, replace the air actuator. Disconnect the vacuum pump and reinstall the vacuum hose.

NOTE: When installing the air filter, ensure that the vacuum hose is securely seated on the intake manifold fitting.

Removal and installation

Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, as well as the exhaust gas filter installed at the bottom of the air filter housing. On engines of models JPA, LPA and LUA, remove the cold air supply hoses Unscrew the mounting bolts and raise the air filter. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the intake manifold and remove the air filter.

To install the air filter, connect the vacuum hose to the intake manifold fitting and turn the filter housing so that the hose is in the correct position on the intake manifold fitting. On some engine models, check the correct installation of the air intake on the front panel of the engine compartment. Install the air filter in place and tighten the bolts of its fastening, and on the JPA model engine, in addition, connect the cold air hose. Install the exhaust gas filter. Check that the vacuum hoses and air lines are connected correctly. Connect the negative cable to the battery.
