Checking the ignition timing angle (Escort 4)

            0

1. Check and, if necessary, adjust the gap between the breaker contacts.

2. Apply marks on the crankshaft pulley and drive cover corresponding to the required ignition timing angle.

3. Remove the vacuum tube from the ignition distributor and plug it with a stopper.

4. Connect the stroboscope, start the engine and direct the stroboscope beam onto the crankshaft pulley. The mark on the crankshaft pulley appears to be stationary and should be aligned with the mark on the drive cover. Otherwise, unscrew the distributor mount and, turning it sideways, achieve alignment of the marks, then secure the distributor.

5. Increase the engine speed to 2000 rpm and note the distance by which the mark on the crankshaft pulley moves.

6. Connect the vacuum tube and check the mark offset again, which should increase in relation to the previous measurement.

7. Otherwise, it is necessary to check the operation of the vacuum regulator or the distributor as a whole.
