Arrangement of bolts of fastening of the generator

And – an adjusting bolt of the generator;
B - a bolt of fastening of an adjusting lath of the generator to the engine;
C and D - alternator mounting bolts

The service life of the auxiliary drive belt depends on the correct tension of the auxiliary drive belt. However, do not overtighten the auxiliary drive belt, as this may damage the alternator bearings.

Check the condition of the belt along its entire length. If there is wear, fraying or cracks, the belt must be replaced. It is advisable to have a spare drive belt of the appropriate type in the vehicle.

1. Loosen the top mounting nut of the alternator and the bolt securing the bracket, then, while moving the alternator towards the engine, loosen the tension of the auxiliary drive belt and remove it from the pulleys.

2. Install the auxiliary drive belt on the pulleys and adjust its tension.

3. To adjust, loosen the upper alternator mounting nut and the bracket mounting bolt.

4. Using a block of wood, push the alternator away from the engine and adjust the tension of the auxiliary drive belt.

5. After adjusting the tension, tighten the upper alternator mounting nut and bracket mounting bolt.

6. The belt tension is considered correct if, when pressed with the thumb in the middle of the belt branch itself between the generator and the crankshaft pulley or water pump, the belt deflection is 10 mm (on the left - on CVH engines, on the right - on OHV engines).
