1. Release the spring clips or unscrew the screws and remove the distributor cap.

2. Remove the distributor rotor from the shaft.

3. On the Bosch distributor, disconnect the electrical connector from the breaker contacts.

4. On a Lucas distributor, release the breaker contact spring lever from the plastic insulator and remove the wire with the capacitor from the fixed end of the spring lever.

5. Unscrew the screw and remove the breaker contact group from the ignition distributor support plate. Be careful not to drop the screw and washer into the ignition distributor.

6. Using a lint-free cloth, wipe the distributor shaft cams, then apply a coat of high-temperature grease to the cams.

7. Install the new contact group on the support plate and secure it with the screw without tightening it completely.

8. On a Lucas distributor, check that the secondary cam is aligned with the reference and that two washers are installed on the screw.

9. Connect the wires to the distributor and adjust the gap between the contacts.
