Removal
Remove the ground cable from the battery. Drain the engine oil. Refit the oil pan drain plug.
Raise the front of the vehicle and support it on stands.
Remove the oxygen sensor multi-pin connector.
Unscrew the nuts and separate the exhaust pipe from the manifold. The exhaust pipe seal must be replaced with a new one. Hang the exhaust pipe to the body using soft wire.
On 1.6 dm³ engines, unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the auxiliary suspensions securing the gearbox to the engine.
Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the clutch housing plate (see Fig. 2B.44).
Gradually loosen the bolts securing the oil pan to the crankcase, then use a lever to separate and remove the pan.
Remove dirt and old gasket from the mating surfaces of the pan and crankcase, and wash the pan before reinstalling it. Check that the oil strainer is clean.
Installation
Completely clean the mating surfaces of the oil pan and cylinder block. Apply sealant to the front and rear of the cylinder block where the gasket is installed (see Fig. 2B.45).
Install new rubber gaskets at the front and rear of the cylinder block. Screw 10 struts into the cylinder block.
Install a new gasket on the struts. Install the oil pan in place, making sure that the gasket does not move. Insert the bolts into the free holes and tighten them by hand. Unscrew the struts and screw in the remaining bolts, tightening them by hand. Tighten the oil pan mounting bolts in a certain sequence to the required torque (see Fig. 2B.46).
Check that the oil drain plug is in place and tightened securely to the specified torque.
Install the plate to the front of the clutch housing. Bolt the exhaust pipe to the manifold. Lower the car and fill the engine with engine oil. Connect the ground cable to the battery.
