Fuel pump

Examination

Access to the fuel pump on HCS engines is most convenient from under the vehicle. The fuel pump can be checked by removing the fuel feed pipe from the carburetor and placing it in an appropriate container. Remove the connector from the ignition coil to prevent the engine from starting.

Turn the engine over with the starter. If the fuel pump is in good working condition, then fuel should flow in pulses from the tube placed in the container. If there is no fuel supply, the pump must be replaced.

Withdrawal

Depending on the type of engine, 2 types of fuel pumps are used. Some models may also have fuel separators. Therefore, before removing the hoses, they must be marked. Remove the negative terminal from the battery. To improve access to the fuel pump, remove the air filter housing.

Mark and remove fuel hoses from the fuel pump. Unscrew nuts or bolts and remove the fuel pump. Remove the fuel pump gasket and remove the pump drive tappet on the CVH engine (see fig. 4A.16). Completely clean the mating surfaces on the fuel pump and engine.

Installation

Installation is made in sequence, return to removal. Check that the fuel hoses are properly connected and secure.
