Disassembly
Remove the rack from the car and clean it of dirt.
Using the FORD MS-1516 tool or a standard spring compressor, compress the spring on the shock strut until the top spring cup is unloaded.
Loosen the nut and remove the top strut mounting bolt (see fig. 10.31).
Remove the upper spring mounting cup and support cup. Remove the coil spring from the shock absorber. If the spring needs to be replaced, decompress it slowly. If only the shock absorber needs to be replaced, do not decompress the spring.
Examination
Check all parts for wear, damage or deformation. Check up smoothness and uniformity of a course of a shock-absorber rod. Examine the shock absorber for fluid leaks. Check the stem for pitting along its entire length.
Installation
Installation is done in sequence. withdrawal, taking into account the following points:
- after assembling the shock absorber, tighten the upper bolt of the spring cup to the required torque;
- check that the ends of the spring are correctly positioned in the spring pads.
