Removal
Raise the front of the vehicle and secure it on stands. Remove the relevant front wheel.
Open the hood. Using a lever, remove the protective head from the top of the strut. Loosen, but do not unscrew, the central strut mounting nut. To do this, use a second key to prevent the shock absorber rod from turning (see Fig. 10.11, 10.12).
Unscrew the brake hose from the support bracket on the front suspension strut.
If equipped, remove the bolt and disconnect the stabilizer bar from the front suspension.
Unscrew the clamp bolt securing the shock absorber strut to the steering knuckle.
Mark the position and unscrew the bolt securing the lower wishbone to the steering knuckle. Using a lever or large screwdriver, pry the groove securing the wishbone ball joint to the steering knuckle and remove the ball joint from the steering knuckle (see Fig. 10.13).
Using a lever, loosen the groove that secures the shock absorber strut to the steering knuckle and, using a hammer, remove the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut.
While supporting the weight of the shock absorber strut, unscrew the 2 nuts securing the strut to the body. Lower the strut and remove it from under the car.
Installation
Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. When installing the lower ball joint mounting bolt of the wishbone, place the bolt in its original place and hold the bolt from turning when tightening the nut.
