Removal


Raise the rear of the vehicle. Remove the appropriate rear wheel.

On estate models, place a jack under the arm directly below the spring and raise it enough to support the full weight of the suspension.

Unscrew the lower shock absorber mounting bolt (see Fig. 10.33).

Unscrew the lower shock absorber mounting bolt (see Fig. 10.33).


On station wagon models, from underneath the vehicle, unscrew the 2 nuts securing the upper shock absorber mount and remove the shock absorber from under the vehicle (see Fig. 10.34).

On station wagon models, from underneath the vehicle, unscrew the 2 nuts securing the upper shock…


On van models, from underneath the vehicle, unscrew the 4 nuts securing the upper shock absorber mount to the body. Remove the shock absorber from underneath the vehicle together with the upper suspension of the unit. To do this, unscrew the lock nut and remove the tie bolt (see Fig. 10.35).



On van models, from underneath the vehicle, unscrew the 4 nuts securing the upper shock absorber…


Examination


Check the condition of the upper and lower rubber bushings of the shock absorber mount. Check the shock absorber for fluid leaks. Check the condition of the shock absorber rod for pitting. Check the smoothness of the stroke and the uniformity of the movement of the rod.

Installation


Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
