OHV engine thermostat

1 - body; 2 - warm air supply; 3 - cold air supply; 4 - valve; 5 - lever

Thermostat with vacuum control (upside down)

1 - warm air supply; 2 - valve with vacuum control; 3 - supply of cold air; 4 - valve vacuum membrane, 5 - vacuum hose; 6 – bimetallic vacuum valve control valve; 7 - vacuum hose from the intake system

The thermostat maintains the temperature of the air entering the air filter within 25–35°C.

Examination

1. It is necessary to start checking the thermostat on a cold engine. When the engine is off, the thermostatic valve must be completely closed (1). It is possible to determine the position of the damper both from the side of the filter and from the side of the air intake (2 - cold air supply).

2. Start the engine and check that the throttle is fully open (1) at idle, opening the supply of air heated by the exhaust manifold (2) into the air filter (3 - vacuum hose, 4 - membrane control device).

3. If, after starting the engine, the thermostatic shutter remains closed, check the thermostatic controller and the membrane.
