Valve drive mechanism





1. Position the cylinder head at the front and rear on two pieces of wood.

2. Remove manifolds with gaskets.

3. Remove thermostat housing.

4. Unscrew the nuts securing the valve actuating levers. When installing levers, new nuts must be used.


5. Remove valve levers (drawing on the left) and hydraulic pushers (drawing on the right). Valve levers, hydraulic tappets, guides and spacer plates must be marked with adhesive tape or arranged in sets so that they fall into place during assembly.



6. Unscrew the two bolts from the drive side, remove the plate fixing the camshaft.




7. Remove the camshaft from the cylinder head through the ignition distributor mounting hole.



8. Using a standard tool, compress the valve spring and remove the cotters. The spring can be compressed using tool 21.097 or a self-made tool.

9. Remove the spring compressor. Remove the upper spring plate, spring and lower spring plate. Remove the valve from the back of the head. The valves are removed in order, starting from the drive side of the gas distribution mechanism. The valves must be marked with adhesive tape or laid out in such a way that they fall into place during assembly.



10. Using a screwdriver, remove the oil seals.

11. Check the condition of the cylinder head parts.
