Disassembly and assembly of the generator (Escort 3)

            0

After removing the generator from the car, its disassembly and assembly do not present any particular difficulty, since its components are clearly shown in the detailed drawings figures 7.6-7.8. Rectifier diodes are sensitive to high temperatures. Therefore, when replacing them, solder as soon as possible using pliers with sponges. It is not recommended to use an electric soldering iron, since if its insulation is damaged, a short circuit may occur in the rectifier diodes.

The electrical characteristics of the generator should never be tested in a circuit with a voltage greater than 40 V. Diodes should not be tested in circuits with a DC voltage greater than 24 V. It is recommended to clean the generator parts with white spirit or trichloroethylene, and immediately after cleaning, dry with compressed air (especially the windings). When inspecting the parts, check:
  • condition of the brushes, degree of their wear, fit to the rings and pressing force;
  • appearance of contact rings and inter-contact gaps. Clean only with fine-grained sandpaper;
  • condition of the bearings. The grease in them is designed for their entire service life;
  • appearance of the rotor and stator. Make sure that their windings have no breaks or signs of burning.

Adjusting the drive belt tension

Loosen the generator mounting bolts to the cylinder block and the tension bar bolt. Move the generator away from the cylinder block so that the longest belt branch deflects by 10 mm when applying force to its middle with your thumb. Tighten the generator and tension bar mounting bolts.
