Engine Overhaul — Disassembly Sequence

1. The engine is much easier to disassemble and work with if it is mounted on a portable stand.

Note: when removing external parts from the engine, pay close attention to parts that are useful and important for reinstallation. Note how gaskets, seals, pins, spacers, brackets, washers, bolts, and other small parts fit


5. The sequence of engine disassembly during a complete overhaul:
  • valve cover;
  • intake and exhaust manifolds;
  • valve levers and push rods;
  • valve lifters;
  • head (And) cylinder block;
  • camshaft drive chain cover;
  • camshaft and sprocket drive chain;
  • camshaft;
  • oil pan;
  • oil pump;
  • piston / connecting rod assembly;
  • crankshaft and main bearings.
