1. The engine is much easier to disassemble and work with if it is mounted on a portable stand.

Note: When removing external components from the engine, pay special attention to parts that are useful and important for reinstallation. Note the position of gaskets, seals, pins, spacers, brackets, washers, bolts and other small parts


5. Sequence of engine disassembly during a complete overhaul:
  • valve cover;
  • intake and exhaust manifolds;
  • valve levers and pushrods;
  • valve tappets;
  • cylinder head(s);
  • camshaft timing chain cover;
  • camshaft drive chain and sprockets;
  • camshaft;
  • oil pan;
  • oil pump;
  • piston/connecting rod assemblies;
  • crankshaft and main bearings.
