Bulkhead of a head of the block of cylinders

1. Install new seals on each rail. Using a hammer, socket or seal installation tool, carefully and completely seat each seal on the guide (see picture). Do not twist or distort the seals during installation, otherwise they will not sit tightly on the valve stems. Valve stem seals should only be installed after the valves themselves have been installed.

2. Starting at one end of the head, lubricate and install the first valve. Apply a type of grease to the valve stem "moth" or clean engine oil.

3. Install the spring seat or shim over the valve guides then replace the spring screen and retainer (see picture).

4. Compress the springs with tools. Place the holders in the grooves, then slowly loosen the tool and check that the holders are installed correctly. If necessary, secure the holders in place with a little grease.

5. Follow the same procedure for the rest of the valves. Do not confuse parts from different valves - install them only with each other.

6. Check the height of the installed valve spring with a 1/32 inch graduated ruler or a measuring head. Measurements are taken from the top end (saddles) spring or shim to lower holder (see picture). If the height is greater than the specification, shims can be placed under the spring to correct it.

Caution: Under no circumstances should shims be placed under a sagging spring that is less than specified height.

7. Apply "moth" - lubrication on the outer surfaces of the valve levers and pivot pins, then install the axles and levers in the cylinder head. Screw in the bolts 3-4 turns (if a V6 head is installed, the bolts should be tightened in accordance with the recommendations given in the data sheet).
