1. Before you begin assembling the engine, make sure you have all the necessary new parts, gaskets and seals, as well as the necessary tools and materials. Read through all procedures to familiarize yourself with the work ahead and ensure you have everything you need to rebuild the engine. In addition to standard tools and materials, a thread and joint gripping compound will be required. For general-purpose use, Loctite 275 or Hylomar PL32M sealants are recommended. For locking pin and bolt threads where necessary, use Loctite 270. These sealants are recommended and sold by Ford dealers. In all other cases, simply clean the mating surfaces and fit them tightly to the gasket, ensuring an oil-tight seal. Do not use silicon-based sealants on any part of the fuel system or intake manifold, and never use exhaust system sealants in areas preceding the catalytic converter (if it is installed).
2. To save time and avoid problems, the engine assembly can be performed in the following (possible) order:
a) crankshaft and main bearings;
b) tappets and camshaft;
c) pistons and connecting rods;
d) oil pump and housing;
d) water pump;
e) pallet;
g) flywheel,
c) cylinder head;
k) toothed pulleys and camshaft drive belt;
l) external engine elements
3. Make sure all components and parts are clean. As mentioned earlier, dirt and metal particles can quickly destroy the anti-friction layer of bearings and cause serious damage. Use only clean engine oil to lubricate parts during assembly.
