Generator repair

Removal and installation of the generator are carried out in the following order. Disconnect the wires from the battery and the connector block from the generator. Remove the heat shield and remove the alternator mounting bolts. Connect the alternator to the engine and remove the drive belt. To take out bolts of fastening and to remove the generator from the car. Install the generator in the reverse order of removal. Reinstall the alternator and install its mounting bolts. Tension the drive belt and tighten the fastening bolts in the following order: tensioning plate fastening bolt; bolt and nut of the front fastening of the generator; bolt and nut on the back of the alternator. Install the heat shield, connect the alternator connector block and wires to the battery.

Bosch alternator brush replacement

Disconnect the wires from the battery and remove the heat shield. Unscrew the screws securing the voltage regulator and remove the regulator. Unsolder the wires from the brushes and remove them along with the springs (pic. 7.13). Install new brushes and springs in the brush holder and solder the wires. Install the voltage regulator, heat shield and connect the wires to the battery.

Lucas Alternator Brush Replacement

Disconnect the wires from the battery and remove the heat shield. Disconnect the wiring harness from the alternator connector and remove the rear cover. Loosen the screws securing the brush holder (pic. 7.14) and remove the brushes. Install new brushes and secure the brush holder. Install the rear cover of the generator, attach the connector block, install the heat shield and connect the wires to the battery.

Motorola alternator brush replacement

Disconnect the wires from the battery and remove the heat shield. Disconnect the wiring harness from the alternator connector. Remove the voltage regulator and two taps. Loosen the screws securing the brush holder (pic. 7.15) and take it off. Unsolder the wires and remove the brushes. Install new brushes in the brush holder and solder the wires. Reinstall the brush holder and fasten it with screws. Connect the taps and reinstall the voltage regulator. Connect the block with wires to the generator connector and install the heat shield. Connect the wires to the battery.
