The necessary information is sent to the ECU from the crankshaft position sensor, installed at a certain distance from the flywheel. Based on this information, the ECU selects from the values of the ignition advance angle (IAA) stored in its memory the optimal one for the given engine operating conditions and sends signals to two high-energy ignition coils with two high-voltage terminals each.
The spark discharge occurs simultaneously on two spark plugs (1 and 4 or 2 and 3 cylinders). The working spark discharge occurs at the end of the compression stroke, and the idle spark discharge occurs at the end of the exhaust stroke.
Characteristics of the electronic ignition system
The minimum voltage for the system to operate is 5.6 V.
The resistance of the primary winding of the coil is no more than 1.6 Ohm.
The resistance of the secondary winding of the coil is 15 kOhm +15%.
The distance between the crankshaft position sensor and the flywheel is 0.8-1.2 mm.
Spark plugs - Champion RC 6 Y or Motorcraft AGP 902.
