ELIMINATION METHOD
Cold engine won't start
When the ignition is turned on, the fuel pump does not work Check voltage supply to fuel pump. If the pump does not work when voltage is applied to the pump, then it must be replaced
25A JNS fuse blown Replace fuse
Faulty control relay Remove the relay, close the terminals 30 and 87 on the connector with a wire with a 16 A fuse, turn on the ignition. The pump must then run
Faulty thermal switch If only a cold engine does not start, check the thermal time switch
Faulty starting injector If only a cold engine does not start, check the starting injector
Auxiliary air duct defective If only a cold engine does not start, check the operation of the additional air damper
Hot engine won't start
Idle speed and CO content not adjusted Check and, if necessary, adjust the idle speed and CO content
Faulty thermal switch Replace thermal switch
Leaky start nozzle Check the tightness of the starting injector
Defective heating controller If only a hot engine does not start, check the warm-up control
Leaky air supply system Check the tightness of the air supply system
Leaky fuel system Check fuel system for leaks. Additionally tighten all connections
Unstable operation of the engine up to a stop
Idle speed and CO content not adjusted Check and, if necessary, adjust the idle speed and CO content
Auxiliary air duct defective Check the operation of the additional air damper
Nozzle not closing Check start injector
Oil gauge or oil filler cap incorrectly installed on Turbo RS engine Check and adjust if necessary. Since July 1988, an improved oil level gauge has been installed
Engine constantly stops
Broken fuel pump power circuit Check and, if necessary, repair the electrical supply circuit of the fuel pump
Clogged fuel filter Replace fuel filter
Faulty fuel pump Replace fuel pump
Faulty fuel distributor Check and, if necessary, replace the fuel distributor
Leaky fuel system Check fuel system for leaks. Additionally tighten all connections
Increased fuel consumption
The composition of the working mixture is incorrectly adjusted Adjust the composition of the working mixture
High idle
Auxiliary air duct defective Check if the auxiliary air damper closes completely
