CAUSE
METHOD OF ELIMINATION
Cold engine won't start
When the ignition is turned on, the fuel pump does not work Check the voltage supply to the fuel pump. If the pump does not work when voltage is supplied to it, then it must be replaced
JNS 25A fuse blown Replace the fuse
The control relay is faulty Remove the relay, short-circuit terminals 30 and 87 on the connector with a wire with a 16 A fuse, turn on the ignition. The pump should work
The thermal time switch is faulty If only a cold engine does not start, check the thermal time switch
The starting injector is faulty If only a cold engine does not start, check the starting injector
The additional air duct is faulty If only a cold engine does not start, check the operation of the additional air damper
Hot engine won't start
Idle speed and CO content are not adjusted Check and, if necessary, adjust idle speed and CO content
The thermal time switch is faulty Replace the thermal time switch
The starting nozzle is leaking Check the tightness of the starting nozzle
The heating regulator is faulty If only a hot engine does not start, check the heating regulator
The air supply system is leaky Check the air supply system for leaks
The fuel system is leaking Check the fuel system for leaks. Additionally, tighten all connection points
Unstable engine operation until it stops
Idle speed and CO content are not adjusted Check and, if necessary, adjust idle speed and CO content
The additional air duct is faulty Check the operation of the additional air damper
The starting nozzle does not close Check the starting injector
Turbo RS engine has incorrectly installed oil level indicator or oil filler cap Check and if necessary set correctly. Since July 1988 an improved oil level indicator has been installed
The engine keeps stopping
The electrical circuit of the fuel pump supply is broken Check and, if necessary, restore the electrical circuit of the fuel pump power supply
Clogged fuel filter Replace the fuel filter
The fuel pump is faulty Replace the fuel pump
The fuel distributor is faulty Check and replace the fuel distributor if necessary
The fuel system is leaking Check the fuel system for leaks. Additionally, tighten all connection points
Increased fuel consumption
The composition of the working mixture is incorrectly adjusted Adjust the composition of the working mixture
High idle speed
The additional air duct is faulty Check if the additional air damper closes completely
