Checking the charging system

            0

If the charging control lamp on the instrument cluster does not light after the ignition is turned on, then check the connection of the electrical wires to the generator. Also check up serviceability of a control lamp. Check up integrity of a wire from the generator to a control lamp. If the control lamp and the wire connecting it are in good condition, then it is necessary to repair the generator.

If the battery charging indicator lamp remains on after starting the engine, turn off the engine and check the condition and tension of the alternator drive belt. If the generator drive is normal, repair the generator.

If the voltage generated by the generator is out of range, check the voltage regulator.

Connect an accurate voltmeter to the battery terminals and start the engine.

Increase the engine speed and after the voltmeter readings stabilize, check that they are in the range of 13.5-14.6 V.

Turn on all electrical consumers (headlights, heated rear window, heater) and check the operation of the generator. In this case, the voltage output by the generator should be in the range of 13-14 volts.

If the alternator voltage is not correct, it may be due to worn brushes or weak brush springs, a faulty voltage regulator, a broken winding diode, or worn alternator rings.
