Elements of the starting device
1 – protrusion on the shielding ring and groove for it; 2 – shielding ring; 3 – bimetallic spring tongue and its installation location 4 – screws; 5 – lid; 6 – flange
Attention! The engine with a working volume of 1.4 dm³ is equipped with a manual starting device.
Removal
1. Remove the ground cable from the battery and the air filter.
2. Remove the wires from the automatic starting device.
3. Remove the fuel hoses.
4. Unscrew the 6 bolts securing the carburetor cover and remove it carefully.
5. Unscrew the 3 flange mounting screws, remove the flange and the starter cover.
6. Remove the shielding ring.

7. Unscrew the 3 screws securing the starting device (indicated by arrows).

8. Disconnect the air damper shaft and remove the starting device and the vacuum tube sealing ring, which is located between the holes for the mounting screws.
Installation and adjustment
1. Install the device in the reverse order of removal.
2. The shielding ring must be installed in such a way that the pin of the ring enters the groove in the body of the starting device.
3. Install the starter cover with the bimetallic spring so that the spring engages with the starter drive lever.
4. Do not tighten the flange mounting bolts. In case of emergency, perform basic adjustment of the starting device.

5. Turn the lid to align the mark on the lid with the middle mark on the body. Aligning the mark on the lid with mark A on the body enriches the mixture, while aligning it with mark C leads to a leaner mixture.
6. Install the air filter and connect the ground wire to the battery.
7. If the engine runs unsteadily during warming up and even stops, align the mark on the cover with mark A on the body.
8. When delaying the starter shutdown, align the mark on the cover with the mark C on the body.
9. To check the functionality of the starting device, slowly press the accelerator pedal, while the air damper should be closed.
10. After turning on the ignition, the air damper should open completely after 5 minutes. Otherwise, check the serviceability of the bimetallic spring, the power supply circuit of the starting device or the thermal switch.
