2. If there is no stand, the engine can be disassembled on a level floor. Be extremely careful not to tip or drop the engine when working without a stand.
3. If you are going to install a rebuilt engine, you must first remove all external components from the old one in order to transfer them to the new engine, just as if you were going to carry out a complete overhaul of the engine yourself. The components being transported include the following:
- a) alternator and supporting brackets;
- b) timing belt and pulleys;
- c) water pump;
- d) oil pump and housing;
- d) intermediate engine plate,
- e) thermostat and housing;
- g) elements of the fuel injection system;
- c) intake and exhaust manifolds,
- i) oil filter;
- c) booster pump (if installed);
- l) engine mounts;
- m) flywheel.
Caution: When removing external components from the engine, pay special attention to parts that may be important or useful during installation. Remember the installation positions of gaskets, seals, brackets, washers, bolts and other small parts.
4. If you purchased a "short" engine (consisting of a cylinder block, crankshaft, pistons with connecting rods in fully assembled form), the cylinder head, valve train and oil pan must also be removed from the old engine.
5. If you are planning a complete overhaul, the engine must be completely disassembled and the internal components removed in the following order:
- a) timing belt, tensioner and toothed pulleys;
- b) water pump;
- c) high-pressure fuel pump;
- d) oil pump and housing;
- d) intake and exhaust manifolds (if they were not removed during the engine removal process);
- e) cylinder head;
- g) intermediate plate;
- c) flywheel,
- i) camshaft and tappets;
- c) pallet;
- l) pistons (with connecting rods);
- m) crankshaft.
6. Before you begin the engine disassembly and overhaul procedure, make sure you have the necessary parts, tools and materials. Please refer to the introductions at the beginning of this guide for further information.
