Cylinder head assembly (Transit 2)

            0

1. Before assembling the cylinder head, first make sure that it is completely clean and that no grinding paste remains in the head or on the valves and guides. Use compressed air, if possible, to blow out all lubrication holes and passages.

2. Begin assembling the cylinder head by placing new valve stem oil seals over each valve guide, pushing them all the way into a deep socket of the appropriate diameter (see figure 11.2.a,b)

3. Lubricate each valve stem before reinstallation (see Figure 11.3).

4. Insert the first valve into the guide, then position the valve spring and its retainer on the valve stem and hook them with a puller. Compress the spring and retainer just enough to be able to install the crackers into the recess of the valve stem; a small amount of grease applied to the crackers during installation will help secure them in place (see figure 11.4a,b). After inserting crackers into the recess, slowly open and remove the puller.
