General information

            0

The main elements of the ignition system include the ignition switch, battery. speed and crankshaft position sensor, ignition unit, ignition coil, low voltage electrical circuits, high voltage wires and spark plugs. Engines with a carburetor use the DIS ignition system, and engines with a fuel injection system use the E-DIS ignition system. These systems do not have a conventional ignition distributor. and its functions are performed by the block and the ignition coil.

The ignition coil actually consists of two separate windings that supply a spark to 2 cylinders each (one for cylinders 1 and 4, the other for cylinders 2 and 3). The ignition pulse is applied to two spark plugs at once for each engine cycle: one on the compression stroke, one on the exhaust stroke. The ignition spark on the exhaust stroke has no effect on the operation of the engine and is therefore wasted. The ECU uses inputs from various sensors. to calculate the required ignition timing and ignition coil storage time.

Precautions

In the electronic ignition system, the ignition voltage is about 37 kV. Under adverse circumstances (high humidity in the engine compartment) voltage peaks can pierce the insulation and cause shock when touched. To avoid personal injury and damage to the ignition system, the following must be observed when working on the system:
  • do not touch with your hand and do not disconnect the ignition wire while the engine is running or when turning the engine crankshaft with a starter;
  • disconnect the wires of the ignition system. connect and disconnect any measuring instruments only when the ignition is off;
  • The ignition coil must not be replaced with another version. Under no circumstances should an ignition coil be installed. designed for a system with a breaker;
  • when heated to more than 80° (when painting a car), the engine must not be started immediately after heating;
  • wash the engine only with the engine not running;
  • when carrying out electric welding work, it is necessary to disconnect the battery;
  • It is forbidden to carry out work on the ignition system to persons with a pacemaker.
