Checking the ignition system (Escort 5)

If the engine turns over with the starter but does not start, disconnect the high-tension wire from any spark plug and connect it to an additional good spark plug, the body of which is securely fastened to the engine.

Turn the crankshaft and carefully look at the interelectrode gap of the additional spark plug. Bright blue sparks should periodically flash through it.

If there is a spark, check the condition of the remaining high-voltage wires in the same way. Unscrew and check the condition of the spark plugs.

If there is no spark, check the condition of the high-voltage wires.

If there is still no spark, check the electrical connector connection to the ignition coil. Check the battery voltage. Check the ignition coil.

If there is still no spark, have the ignition system repaired at a service station.
