Oil pump (Escort 5)

Removal

The oil pump is mounted on the rear side of the engine.

Raise the front of the car and secure it on stands. Unscrew and remove the oil filter. The oil filter is unscrewed by hand.

Unscrew the three mounting bolts and remove the oil pump from the engine (see Fig. 2A.28).



Clean any traces of old gasket from the mating surfaces of the pump and motor.

Installation

If the oil pump has been disassembled or if a new pump is to be installed, it is necessary to fill it with engine oil before installing the pump. To do this, turn the pump drive shaft and simultaneously inject clean engine oil into the pump.

Place the new gasket on the pump mounting lip, then insert the pump, aligning the drive, and secure the pump with the bolts (see Fig. 2A.29).



Note the new gasket. Install a new oil filter. Lower the vehicle and check the engine oil level.
