Removal
Remove the gearbox and clutch.
Unscrew the six mounting bolts and remove the flywheel from the rear end of the crankshaft. To prevent the crankshaft from turning when unscrewing the bolts, secure the flywheel with a special device by the toothed crown.
Examination
Inspect the ring gear on the flywheel for broken or excessively worn teeth. If wear is evident, the ring gear must be replaced or a complete new flywheel must be used.
The friction surface of the clutch disc should be checked for grooves, scratches or wear. If defects are present, the flywheel working surface can be reground, provided that the flywheel is rebalanced.
Installation
Check that the mating surfaces of the flywheel and crankshaft are clean. Lubricate the threads of the mounting bolts with engine oil before tightening. Install the flywheel on the crankshaft. and insert the bolts. Screw in the bolts by hand, then gradually and consistently tighten them to the required torque (see Fig. 2A.39).
Install the clutch and gearbox.
