The clutch is single-disc, dry, with a central pressure spring (Fig. 3.1).

Clutch housing 2 is attached to the flywheel with six bolts and is connected to the pressure plate with elastic plates. Driven disk 1 assembled with a damper is located on the splines of the primary shaft of the gearbox. The clutch drive is cable-operated and gap-free. The free travel of the clutch pedal is adjusted automatically by a ratchet mechanism installed on the pedal axis (Fig. 3.2).

From serial number DC 17041 onwards, from March 1983 onwards, the clutch cable on the Escort RS 1600 i model has been extended by 150 mm. If replacing, install a new type of cable. Clutch brands: Sachs, Automotive or Laycock.
