EGR valve

Start the engine. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the EGR valve and plug it with a plug.

Apply vacuum to the EGR valve. The vacuum must be stable and the engine must run erratically.
  • if the vacuum does not hold steady and the engine is running normally, replace the EGR valve and recheck;
  • if the vacuum remains steady and the engine is running normally, remove and check the EGR valve.

EGR system

Any check of the EGR system requires special tools and test equipment and must be carried out at a service station.

EGR valve and pipe

Remove the negative terminal from the battery. Remove the air supply elements to the engine.

Disconnect the vacuum hose and unscrew the bushing nut securing the EGR pipe to the valve (see fig. 4E.21).

Unscrew 2 bolts and remove the valve from the intake manifold. The valve gasket must be replaced each time the valve is removed (see fig. 4E.22).

Remove the 3 bolts and remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.

Disconnect the 2 pressure converter hoses from the EGR pipe.

Unscrew the nut securing the EGR pipe sleeve to the intake manifold and remove the pipe.

Clean the mating surfaces of the EGR valve and manifold.

Installation is made in sequence, return to removal.
