Water pump for CVH and RTE engines (Escort 5)

Removal

Remove the negative terminal from the battery.

Drain the coolant from the cooling system. Remove the toothed belt and belt tensioner. Remove the coolant hose from the water pump (see Fig. 3.30).



Unscrew the 4 bolts securing the water pump to the front side of the cylinder block and remove the pump (see Fig. 3.31).

Installation

Clean the mating surfaces of the water pump and engine. The water pump is a non-separable type, so if there are any defects in the pump, it must be replaced. Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

Install the timing belt and tensioner mechanism.

Fill the cooling system with coolant. Connect the battery.
