The engine is a gasoline, four-stroke, four-cylinder, in-line, water-cooled engine, mounted transversely in front of the vehicle.
OHV engines (OHV – Overhead valves) with a camshaft mounted on three bearings, on the side of the engine cylinder block and chain driven from the crankshaft. The valve timing system is designed on the principle of transverse scavenging, i.e. the fuel mixture is supplied to the cylinders from one side of the engine, and the combustion products are removed from the other side, through the exhaust system. The intake and exhaust valves are driven from the camshaft through tappets and levers. The crankshaft is mounted on three bearings and balanced by counterweights. The axial play of the crankshaft is adjusted by thrust half rings installed on both sides of the central main bearing.
The camshaft driven oil pump is mounted on the side of the engine block under the ignition distributor. A full flow oil filter is mounted on the oil pump housing.
