Removing and installing the windshield wiper (Escort 3)

Remove the brushes and leashes and disconnect the battery. Remove the leash axle nut caps, unscrew the nuts and remove the washers and spacer bushings. Disconnect the electric motor connector, unscrew the two motor reducer plate mounting bolts (Fig. 7.74) and remove the plate together with the motor reducer and drive.



Remove the spacer bushings from the drive axles of the leashes and secure the gear motor in a vice, with the levers facing up. Loosen the nut and remove the drive lever 3 (fig. 7.72). Unscrew the three bolts securing the gear motor to the plate and remove it.

Before installing the windshield wiper, set the gear motor shaft to the non-working position. Insert the gear motor shaft into the plate hole and secure the gear motor with three bolts. Install the drive lever 3 and secure it with a nut. Install spacer bushings on the rod axles and secure the plate with the gear motor and drive to the vehicle with two bolts. Install spacer bushings, washers, tighten the nuts and connect the gear motor connector block. Connect the battery, install the rods and brushes and check the operation of the windshield wiper.
